Welcome to Klingon Mish Mash day!!! Had a busy one today but wanted to post a few things!!! So with that, here are two variations of Klingon ships designed for TV’s Enterprise!!! The first drawing is of two ideas for the Klingon shuttle from the pilot episode, “Broken Bow”. The ship had to be a small one manned vessel, and these were the first ideas put down on paper. The bottom right was my fav, but this one went into the archives and another concept was chosen….stay tuned for the next mish mash to see the selected pass of this one!
Next was the first major Klingon ship we had to design for the series, and it was described as the Raptor in the script. The attack vessel was of a medium size ship with some fairly heavy armaments. The bridge module shows port and starboard torpedo launchers and simple cabling is seen and would be a prominent feature in all of the rest of the Klingon designs for the rest of the series. The cabling was a detail that was to bring the Klingon architecture back in time a bit as to fit in the retro-ed look of everything else!!! Just went over to Doug baby’s blog and found the CG models of the Raptor and without hesitation I stole or borrowed these fine pics to go with the sketch!!!! THANKS DREX… you nutty li’l monkey butt you!!!

Ooh! I like these!
Have to go back and look but I think Drex has the CG model up of the raptor in some of his past post’s!
Wooho! So you found them then!
Saaaaaa-lick! K-birds! Nice!

Thanks DEG and nice to chat for a while today until the phones went dead
LOL, aliens blasted our comm-sat outta orbit or somethin’!
Always a pleasure to chat up some sci-fi and/or projects, my friend.
Get yer stuff together and we’ll get ya up and live with a slick website to show off your awesome work, eh. That way you’ll never have to dance “Hum-ma-na Hum-ma-na” again if they ask for your site.
And just keep me posted on the other stuff. And glad to hear Carlene is doin’ OK, if not a bit tired now-and-again. I’m sure it just takes some time for the body to bounce back after such an ordeal. Prayers for her continue.
Holy crikey! Look at those new raptor renders! Way-cool!
Talk w/ya later, brother,
deg
They are really sweet, been trying my hand at some klingon concepts myself lately, its shame the Klingons didn’t get more ship designs in the other series like they did in Ent, really love teh direction you went with the Klingon ships though John, you really captured the Klingon feel.
Thanks and would love to see your take on the old lump heads ships!!!
Ya, that bottom-right one just screams “action”! Looks like it would be almost as fun as a Scorpion to take out and zoom around in.
But this one has Klingon written all over it!
Yeah it would be like trying to fly a Mig 25!!!
Enterprise had an incredible number of new ship designs and the Klingon ships where some of the best of the bests. Your “retro” versions of all the TOS era alien designs (Klingons, Romulans, etc.) where things of beauty. Thank you for posting these!
Bests,
Richard
Thanks Richard , and it was great fun to retro out those designs from my fav’s Jefferies, and Chang
Klingons are Kool.
you said it Mr. Blues!!!!
+1 on the praise for the ENT Klingon designs. Especially loved the blunt head on the D5 battlecruiser — it was awesome, and perfectly believable as a predecessor to the D7.
If the Klingon’s had individual fighters, the bottom right design would be it! Too cool!
Love the Raptor design! Love how you were able to retro Matt’s designs to give them some originality and orignal flavor all in one bite!
I really like that bottom right shuttle concept. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but we didn’t see the shuttle in the episode, did we? I don’t remember it but it’s also been some months since I watched Broken Bow.
And the Raptor is just plain awesome. It’s my favorite Klingon ship that you designed for the series, though they’re all cool. If I hadn’t already snagged the images when Doug posted them, I’d have gotten them now.
Hi there, I don’t think you caught the part where John said that the accepted pass would be in an upcoming mish mash…no fear, it will be here!
So you are correct that these passes weren’t in the eps.
I got that part, I just don’t remember any Klingon shuttles in that episode. This is Klang’s ship, right? All we saw of that was a bunch of smoke rising up from a cornfield, unless I’m not remembering correctly. (which is entirely possible)
Ah, I see! And since you’re a genius, I should have figured that! HA!
Maybe someone can pull some screen shots to go with John’s final version posting. If someone has caps, post here and I’ll get them from you, if you don’t know how to get them to John.
Yeah, I pulled out my DVD and I saw it. I’d forgotten that you do see it partially obscured by the cornstalks very briefly. Too bad we didn’t get to see more of John’s cool concept on screen.
I love the second shuttle, reallt look like it could fly.
The Raptor is a great little ship.
I really liked this ship. In ’96 (when I was in 6th grade) I designed a Federation ‘Raptor-Class” which was a joint project with the Klingons in the 26th Century. I guess that would echo back to this design. I like how your Raptor could fit into the ship linage easily showing progress towards a BoP & Negh’Var.
Ooh, the grand unveiling of Klaag’s (was that his name?) shuttle! That bottom right concept is really cool. Those panels either side of the cockpit are like eye guards or something. Looking forward to seeing the chosen design, as it was just a fuzzy brown blob in the ep!
I can’t wait to see the final shuttlepod. But I agree the one with the wings is a cool concept.
So Mr Eaves. Are we going to get some equally cool pics of the D-5?….Please…
Love the looks to the Klingon Shuttle Pods. Too bad we didn’t get to see them in action.
And just love seeing the Enterprise Era starships. It inspired me to work on some Klingon Starships for STO (even though it’s not likely to get accepted).
Love the raptor!
How ’bout some pics of the D-5 battlecruiser pretty soon?
