Thanks for the reminder about the Sarajevo!!! This one was hard to find in the files because it had two lives on the tube. First as the little dark vessel in “Storm Front”, then revamped to save CGI $$$ as the Elite Observation Vessel in “Home”. It was a quick draw and not a lot of description was written about this one, so a stack of horseshoes on my desk was the visual inspiration behind the design. Always fun to come up with new space craft, and the burning ship from #54 was a real treat as well. I don’t recall if it made to the episode or not but here are the remains of the attacked and burning vessel!

I don’t remember the burning vessel, but I’m guessing it was only on the viewscreen for a split second. Nice lines, though, and it actually has kind of Starfleet feel to it.
I have to back and see if it made it or not!
I really like that burned out ship, it reminds me of a sleeker version of your half saucer design. The Sarajevo is really cool too, especially the rework with the Starfleet nacelles. 🙂
thanks!!! revamping happened a lot in the last season!!! a lot of times i wouldn’t even no about it until we saw dailies and a new cg-retro had happened!
It makes sense to revamp and re-use stuff. If you move some polies around and change the textures, a CGI model can look like something totally new with only a fraction of the work.
I was really surprised when the captain’s chair from the cut scenes from Nemesis wound up on the NX-01 (and 02) bridge. But that makes sense, as they never actually used it on screen (cut scenes don’t count) and they went to the work of making it. At least they did get rid of the seatbelts, though.
Always enjoyed the look of the Sarajevo because it was not quite what you’re used to seeing in a Starfleet design, but it still has some of those familiar lines.
The burning shot of the alien vessel is very dramatic! I like the pontoon look to it!

Nice little Bond ship in the bottom pic. 🙂 I could see this spooling through the water with propelers on the back of both sides! I’m sure it’s meant to be bigger than that, but that’s what I see. 😉 I like the design.
Eps #54 was Anomaly, right? I don’t recall seeing anything like this ship, on fire or not, but it’s been a while.

I must admit I don’t remember the Sarajevo’s other appearance in Home, but the Bussards on the embedded nacelles look great, and presumably eliminate the ‘wrap-around’ warp-drive theory that had been speculated on for the ship. It’s a tantalising design, I thought from its initial appearance that it was much smaller (with the big windows), until it was shown alongside the Enterprise in Daedalus. Memory Alpha have described it as a transport ship, and that NC-27 on the side in your sketch presumably can rubber-stamp it as an NC-class ship I guess? 🙂 There’s so little info on it I’d love to hear more of your own thoughts on the possible role and background of this little baby. For example, what exactly is an Elite Observation Vessel?

Sarajevo looks great. There can’t be many things harder in Trek than coming up with an “Earth ship” that doesn’t just repeat many of the same cues present in the already-famous Trek ships. I think this one succeeded. Thanks so much for posting that, and again to Mark Gill for thinking to ask.
I like the damaged alien vessel, too; as I remember, the CGI model got to be the subject of a really tight close-up, even tighter than we usually zoom in on a hero ship. Turned out well.

Well, I would have liked the nacelles of the Sarajevo to be better recognizable on the CGI version.

Wow I almost forgot about your blog John ! (please fogive me because I wasn’t noticeable here anyway …) The Sarajevo drawing is really awesome, but I prefer the “less-human” version. The The burning ship reminds me a lot of the Half-Saucer “Intrepid” from “The Xindi” and “Twilight”. Looks nice anyway, though it was visible only for one second as I recall … and wasn’t burning …
