I was going to combine both posts into one but each man deserved there own, Goodbye friend Irvin and farewell to Leslie, It is a sad day.
I tried to do my part for each by adding my usual commas and some interesting look. Thanks again for the thoughtful posts.
Kersh and Neilsen both gone.
Man, what a really crappy day.
While it is sad that they are gone, it is a good thing to appreciate their works on the blog like you have, and to remember that those works will live on.
I think I will have myself a little tribute film marathon and watch “Forbidden Planet” and “Airplane!” and “Eyes of Laura Mars” and of course “The Empire Strikes Back.”
Leslie Nielsen was in two of my all-time favorites – “Forbidden Planet” and “Police Squad!”, a TV series where he first created the Frank Drebin character that later appeared in the “Naked Gun” movies. Everyone knows FB and The Naked Gun stuff, but few have ever seen Police Squad. There were only six episodes and they remain among the funniest things I have ever seen, either on TV or in film. Nielsen had the perfect comic timing for the project. If you want to see a master at work, look these gems up. You’ll be amazed it’s a TV show.
Farewell, Mr. Nielsen. Thanks for the great memories.
Great way to recognize Mr Nielson and Mr Kirshner. I remember seeing Forbidden Planet as wee late night double feature picture show (ha ha) and the Id mosnter scared the heck out of me.
Indeed, we lost two legends. But their works will always live on.
