On a related note, I’d highly recommend Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner. It’s a documentary about the making of the film that highlights all the problems faced during the production and why the initial release was so different from the director’s cut.
I think I first started paying attention to actor Brion James (Leon) with this film. Often typecast as villains, he had a great comedic turn in The Fifth Element as the general giving Bruce Willis his orders. We lost him too soon at 54.
This is a fixture in my top-5 movies list. Brilliant piece of filmmaking, that in reality took 25 years to complete. But the best things are always worth waiting for. This is perhaps the only movie that ever had the “special edition” treatment done right. The Final Cut is definitely the best (and to my mind, the only version I don’t classify as a rough cut) version of the film. The tweaks made to the film are totally seamless, and improve it in every instance. Its just better not seeing the wires lifting up the Spinners, its just better not seeing the obvious Zhora stunt double. And it reinforces the subplot that Deckard is a replicant (for how could be possibly be anything but?)
Masterpiece 25 years in the making, the greatest of all science fiction films, and one of the greatest films in any category.
This one of my favorite movies. Is it true that they are talking about making a sequel?
My favourite Sci-Fi film.
I just re-watched BR: The Final Cut on Blu-ray last week, it’s such a good film, especially upon repeated viewings.
