Episode 003 was a big first episode after the pilot and it set the pace for multiple ship shows. It has been so long since I saw this stuff that I don’t recall the names of the races or the names of their ships,,, Damn it Jim I’m an artist not a librarian!!! Anyways I am sure that those that no of these facts will put them up for us!!! Thanks in advance to the all knowledagble ones!!! What was called for in this one was a cargo ship in distress, a bad guy ship who drills into smaller  vessels and cocoons their crews,. a rescue ship, and the drilling mechanism. all of this was great fun to work on Jim Martin was on the show and provided the designs for all the disgusting alien devices that the bad guys tortured the crew with,,, Jim really came up with some evil drawings of bodily fluid extraction pumps and hosed ship interiors!!! Some way wicked work by the master!!! the ships were just fee hand designs, no real reference for the designs except for the drill mechanism,,, I had just recently saw Caddyshack again,,,,probably for the 147th time and Rodney Dangerfields golf bag came to mind as to be the basis for the drill bit housing. Borrowing from the Vulcan Lander’s landing pads from First Contact, a retro design came forth as the magnetic docking clamps. lots of fun things to work on and notice the engine exhaust on the drawing of the bad guys ship top view,,,,, Yes again direction was an issue with ONE of the men in charge!!!! HAAAAA!

Hey John, some screenshots are on their way to you!🙂 I’ve been fine, I’m just just a little exhausted. I watched the new movie 5 times in seven days in different (faraway) cinemas, so I really need to get some sleep tonight😉 We’re furiously working at Memory Alpha to add all the facts from the new movie, so I’m looking forward to a very special Shuttle report from you one of these days, we’re always glad to get some more names from the hulls of the ships!🙂

Louisville is about 3 hours northwest of me, John, although I did live there for three years while I was going to school. A *great* town for anybody that has never visited before. I never even thought about Wodnerfest being this weekend. I’ll have to see if I can move my weekend plans around!

Way cool, dude. Somethin’ about cargo ships… I always like modular cargo ship designs eh. Log that one away, eh. Very cool industrial-based design and for the most part, nice and quick strong straight lines on the puppy too.🙂

    Great work, dude!

thanks and so miss the pencil world,,, I haven’t touched one even once here on Green Hornet,,, all photoshop!!!

    • May 13, 2009 at 12:49 pm

I had the same thought, it’d make an excellent battlestar.🙂

Great to see it at long last, too. I remember really liking the freighter and wondering what exactly the rescue ship looked like.

Again with the “Eaves-iosity”. Nobody does it better.

I really love the Axanar ships and the enemy vessel, too. I thought the ship itself looked kinda Romulan-ish. In a good way.😉

    More cool stuff, John.

Of course General Ripper wouldn’t like the sound of “bodily fluid extraction pumps” because we must protect our precious bodily fluids, and stay away from flouridated water.

    ha ha

Wow, you’re working on Green Hornet! Are you doing concepts for Black Beauty? That’s gotta be cool.

Have a safe trip to Louisville this weekend and I’ll see you there.

Haaa!!! I hear that Ripper line everyday on my internet radio station!!! laugh every-time tooo!!! Green Hornet is fun and the artist that did the cars for Speed Racer did the Black beauty,,, and it is a B beauty!! his work is really awesome!!!

Haha the golf bag, I totally see it!

John you and Doug seem to have been on the same wavelength, quite a few times now you guys have posted articles about the same topic.

P.S. Wow John, I hope Green Hornet turns out well (the movie, not your designs, of course they’re going to be good). I love the Van Williams – ’60s Batman era version.

I love that first ship at the top!

This was Enterprise off after the pilot.
I love the bad guys ship, I knew it look sort of formilar but could not thing where, Should have known it was the Son’a design infulance that caused that.

I want to go see the movie in Kentucky!! *stamps foot with pouty face*

That alien ship first reminded me of the Scimitar. That’s just because I like it sO much! I can almost see a few wings opening up on this one.😉 Must be my overactive imagination….

Dangerfield’s golf bag, of course! I love hearing the inspiration stories from this big kid that happens to be a stellar artist (who’d make a terrible librarian!). I actually find the overhead view of the magnets and drill to be a nice work of art in itself…nice!

Oh, I’m sure it is! I never miss watching the Derby there in Loo-a-vul (well, on tv).🙂 I’d love to do more than fly over sometime!!

Very, very side note: BTW, second biggest upset in Derby history this year with Mine That Bird at 50-1 odds winning by almost 7 lengths! And a double win for jockey Calvin Borel with the Kentucky Oaks/Derby wins in 2 days – go Calvin! Wish I’d put a 10-spot down on Mine That Bird…then I could afford to go and see the movie.🙂

I really loved the cargo and rescue ship, they were refreshingly different. You could actually easily imagine them in various sci-fi series. Sometimes ships in Trek just feel ‘Trek’, which isn’t a bad thing, but sometimes its nice to see something more gritty, if you know what I mean🙂

Those ships look great. Sorta like the Jemhadar and the people who sold them defective torpedoes.

    Hahahaha.

I find it entertaining that there seems to be one in every bunch who can’t ask for directions! 😉 Haha!

I love how you draw your inspirations! Who know a golf bag could have been turned into an alien drill? Very cool stuff!

Sweet designs as always! Have fun in the Bluegrass State!

    Hello John,

I always love your drawings! I really appreciate your line and color control.

    Excellent as usual!

I’d been asking after this bad guy ship in a couple of places and wanted to express my thanks for posting the sketches of it. Great stuff.
