Wonderfest 2010, cometh

Good Gravy!!  I am not ready for this one by any means, but one more late night after work and I’ll have the presentation ready to go!!!!  Can’t wait to get there, and this years slide show will cover the Nostromo restoration, work from Star Trek XI, Iron Man II, and a variety of other things!!!  Lots of awesome stuff this year, and the theme of the show is the 25th Anniversary of Dan Obannon’s “Return of the Living Dead”. So with that, here is a teaser piece of art from last year’s ST movie!!!  It’s an early version of Pike’s military shuttle.

Enjoy and catch up with you next week!

Hope you’ll have a blast and return home fairly undamaged (can’t be too cautious with deg and his bananas). 😉

Oh man, four major guest cancellations, but they added John and Lou “The Hulk” Ferrigno to the rooster! As well as a coupla genre babes. Good to see Ken Kelly is back. We sat with and had dinner with him and his wife at the end-ceremony dinner last years. Super-nice (and talented guy)! Bummer Bob and Kathy Burns had to cancel. Hope Bob is feelin’ OK.

See ya at WP Friday, bro, don’t forget your phone. Call or text me to let me know what time you & Nelson are gonna make it up there, eh.

Sorry to hear about Peter Jurasik not attending as a guest as well.
There’s still lots of fun to be had.

PS: Putting John on a rooster is not an image I want in my head. 😉

The theme song for that shuttlecraft is the Cheap Trick tune “Mighty Wings.”

    Have fun John.
Love this shuttle shame it did not make it into the film.

Have a good time those who are going!! Can’t wait to see some stuff after the fest 😀

    >>Iwata that would be Argo, and ya it definitely looks inspired by that, eh? I liked the Argo and it’s land vehicle a lot 🙂 Wanted to order me a set!

I think it would be interesting to see a Star Trek version of the Viper from BSG. Just add warp nacelles and phasers.

I just wanted to give a shout out to Mr. John Eaves, who I had the priviledge of meeting today at Wonderfest in beautiful Louisville, Kentucky. He’s a prince and could not have been nicer to me. Thanks for taking a few minutes out of your day to talk to me and treat me so nicely, John. Absolutely made my day, sir, and it was a fun day. The con had grown by leaps and bounds since the last time I was there, and my crew and I are going to try and make it an annual trip.

And I forgot to link to my picture! Forgive me – its been a long day!

Also, one of my friends who went to the show with me is really into fitness, and after talking to John, we both agreed that he has impressive and enviable guns. You’ll have to post some training tips sometime, John, as my bony girl arms suffer badly by comparison. 🙂

        Jay

Glad you had good time. wonderfest is a great show and if you go you wont be disappointed, I wasnt there this year but I am getting reports from my modelign club that there were 516 models on the tables, and of course there are workshops, films, fantastic guests and several unofficial parties and Iron Modeler where teams have 4 hours to build and paint a model using parts from bins and a mystery kit that is presented at the start of the event.

Thanks De and bluesman! I *did* have a great time, and so did my friends. We all had different highlights and mine was definitely meeting Mr. Eaves. We all just drove up for the day and weren’t able to take in everything, so maybe next year we’ll plan to stay for both days. There certainly seemed to be enough fun going on to fill two days, and Louisville is always a beautiful city to spend time in.

And the model contest entries were absolutely amazing. So much to ooooh and aaah over. One of my friends and I were speculating over how many accumulated man hours were represented by all those great pieces of work. I only snapped a few pics of the ones that made me laugh, so these don’t at all do justice to the length and breadth of work that was present.

Ha! My friend Matt Jacobson is responsible for the AT ATs in the compromising position. I heard he took home some bling for it too.

Aha! So that’s where AT ST Imperial Walkers come from! 😉

    • May 18, 2010 at 9:57 am

Ah, Jay, John said you and others had asked if he’d seen me. D’oh, we should have set up a time to meet at John’s table, eh, as how else would we know each other! Next time, eh.

Anywho, glad you and your crew had a good time! I have to say I (again) had a blast with John, Nelson, and Nelson’s (and now our own) friend, Dennis, and my bro, Greg. What a fun geek-crew. This time around Friday at Wright-Patternson John and I had found out we both played (no surprise there) this arm-punching game, where you make a circle with your thumb and pointer finger and then try to get the other guy to look at it, and if they do, you get to punch him in the arm. But if you’re quick and manage to poke your own finger in the circle, you get to punch them instead (I think that may have been a Midwest twist to the game that John was new to, I think…). Anywho, so John and I had a fun three days of punching one another! Ah, good times, good times. 😀

Yes, I did indeed ask after Mr. deg. I was hoping to put some faces with some blog handles, but maybe next year. It was difficult to do everything I wanted to do and spend as much time on what I wanted with the needs of five other people to think about. Still, a good time had by all. Maybe next year I’ll have my act together a little better and will not be cheap and actually spring for a hotel room – lol

Since you are doing Wonderfest, we couldn’t persuade you to come to the IPMS National Convention in Phoenix could we? Dates are August 4th through the 7th.

    Hi John:
I had really wanted to try and attend this year but it coincided with my son’s graduation. From Jay’s picture, it looks like you had a lot of fun. I couldn’t help but notice the Dominion Battleship lurking in the background – that’s my all time favorite John Eaves design. When time allows, would it be possible for you to post some larger scans of your Dominion ship designs? The detail on those drawings is incredible! Do you ever sell prints of your work? I sure would love to have a framed John Eaves piece hanging on my wall.

Hope you had a great time!

    Best regards,
    Richard

Saw you made it home safely, John! Hope you had a blast! Wish I’d been able to come down and join in the fun…though my arm seems to tell me that it’s thankful I missed the game. Ha! ;D

Like the shuttle design, but instead of a fighter it looks more like an Assault Shuttle.

Nice work – I’m thinking though, make it a little thinner and you have a Trek Viper 😉
