star fleet command center

Here is a big B&W rendering of the Star Fleet Command Center from Star Trek online during the Perpetual days!!!  Lots of fun creating this big space and nice to not have to worry about budget of construction or the restraints of stage size like in the movie days!!!  This was one of the last assignments done before Perpetual went down, and in the next few weeks that followed a lot of interiors were set to paper but were never fully realized….  This one was a particular favorite, and I was so glad to have run across it again today.

Enjoy!

It’s a shame Perpetual’s vision was never completed, especially since TPTB nuked it in favor of a glorified half-finished level pack for a more than mediocre game.

Perpetual was rockin!!!! They were an incredible group and I sure loved all the creativity that was going on!!! Ryan Dening’s work was so awesome as well as all the artist throughout!!! I have never been a gamer,, No time so I am afraid I only knew what was happening at Perpetual.. I really need to go and visit the Cryptic stuff more.. I am sure their group is equally as talented and are loving the fact that working on TREK!!!

That’s really cool. It looks like a huge bridge, but I’m assuming it’s for a space station. I love the big pimpin’ command chair up there in the front of the uppermost platform. (good to be the commander ;)) I always love all the detail you put into your drawings. 😀

Wow. This is like a starbase version of the defiant bridge. Very awesome. I bet there’s a huge conference room at the back for those big staff meetings.

Cool design work. I can well imagine this being the current version of the main bunker under San Francisco Bay!

One question: the staircases can self-modify for wheelchair access…?

good eye and yes, the steps rolled flat to make a ramp.

Why would you need a wheelchair the 24th centery?
Worlf had his severed spine repaired.
Give that we can build an exoskeloton for those in a wheelchair to walk again today. imainge what it would be like by the by the 24th centery? No bulky exoskeloton that for sure. 😀

In a way, its feels similar to the Star Destroyer Bridge with the center walkway and the crew pits next to it. So it really does give a feel of a command center. Perhaps with a giant battleship?

I really dig this design! I wish you had a store where I could buy some of these! They’d look rgeat in my Trek-themed Man Den 😛

As much as I like some of Cryptic’s take on Star Trek Online, revisiting these designs reminds me how in some ways I prefer Perpetual’s art direction, at least!

thanks and again I so want to go a see what the cryptic folks are up too!!! I would love to see there take on things!

This… this is astounding, and it boggles my mind why these concepts aren’t being used by Cryptic who claim to have them all. I mean this would be an excellent layout for the OPS center of the Federation Fleet Starbases in STO. But instead we have a large empty dance floor like space with only a hand-full of of consoles and no view screen… it boggles my mind really how so many of your concepts are looked over and what we get in game is often mediocre at best.

Well being in production and many times on shows that started at one place and then were dropped and brought over to our art department a lot can happen. Depending on who is in charge will either use what has been done before or they will create their own world. It is the prerogative of who is running the show and they are hired to create and set forth a vision so in defense of Cryptic they were handed and golden project and I am sure they are all having a blast!

Oh wow, that’s so awesome~ I love it, this is so totally something I’d love to try building in 3D!
The design is amazing; I love the star destroyer-like setup, and was the shape of that raised platform in the center inspired by the stellar cartography room from Generations at all?

Love all your art, John 😀 Keep being awesome!

Oooohhh…I like! I like a lot! Hmmm…I feel a CG model of this may be in my future… 😀

This really is a fantastic design! I don’t want to get into a “Let’s Bash Cryptic” frenzy, but I wish that some of the interiors were more like this.

…and that they would change the dang music in the game to something that feels more “Trek.”

This is a really cool desgin.
Would have been cool to see this in a film. I am sure it possiable to do on the cheap with a bit of blue screen and ILM. Instead of having to build the whole thing. The Republic concil in Star Wars look great and I doubt Lucas bult everytihng for that when he made Phantom. 😉

Wow, that’s huge. 😀 Remember back in the TMP era movies they had a Starfleet Command room, but aside from some giant screens and a pool table it was nothing on the scale of this (not that I’d expect it to be back then). Would be great to see a room like this in use on screen, especially in an emergency with lots of crew buzzing about.

I agree and wouldn’t it be cool to be looking up at all those big wrap around screens!!!!

        Digital set extensions.

Also, been looking up footage of how those Iron Man 2 “Stark’s lab” holo-VFX were done…

Still amazed at how far things have come since I was a kid in terms of VFX tech.

Kinda reminds me of Japanese Animation bridges in their sci-fi shows with the elevated command center. Cool.
