it’s pin up friday with Gabby, Renee, Ashley, and Laura

Today is a different kind of pin up Friday because this one features new models presented in a vintage 1940’s format.   I came across a pile of these old magazine called Yank (as in Yankee) in an antique store about a year ago and was fascinated by this treasure trove of wartime memorabilia. The magazine ran through the length of the second World War and featured stories from the front, and about the men and women who served around the globe in WWII. Each issue featured a pinup page dedicated to a model or Hollywood starlet to help boost the moral of the troops. It was great fun to take some pix of my fav pinup models and retro-ize their pictures into cover stories for those old Yank magazines. this was a lot of fun to do and I so hope you enjoy them.

this is Renee (Missstake) from Tucson Arizona. Renee has a serious passion for anything pin up and so loves everything vintage!!! she is well on her way to becoming a household name in the genre and she has creating her own style.

In addition to her modeling, Renee makes how to videos on youtube covering the subjects of hair styles and clothing.

This is Laura, AKA Anela Amaretto, Laura was one of the first models I shot with and I so love working with her. Laura's style is broad and diverse and she tackles every theme with such ease and elegance. On the side she runs her own company called beauty by laura and she is currently making the move from the bay area of California to her new digs in Austin Texas.

This is Ashley Lindroth from San Diego California. Ashley is an extremely talented model with a very artistic style to her sense of pose and attitude. She has a wicked magic with how she works the camera and loves pinup without measure.

This is Gabby French from Bakersfield CA. Gabby and I just did our first shoot last month and she was so much fun to work with!!! We did a military theme at the world famous Supply Sargent surplus store and got tons of fantastic pictures. Gabby is so good and so easy to work with. She is rather new to modeling but if you didn't know you wouldn't know! She is an artist in every sense of the word and I love her style and creativity!!!!

snow white and the seven dwarfs, the 75th anniversary

December the 21st, 1937 and the beginning of feature length animation begins. Of coarse this milestone of achievement was created by no other than Walt Disney. The film was a marvel to the movie going audiences and is considered a masterpiece by every standard today. I love this film, and with all the remastering and digital enhancements, I wonder what the movie really looked like on the big screen in 1937.

There are several background paintings and cells from Snow White hanging on the walls of the Animation building at the Walt Disney studios in Burbank, CA, and none of them are as vivid as the current crop of DVD and Blue Ray copies available today. I have an old VHS and Laser disc copies, and I actually prefer the older versions over the new. Regardless of how you see this film nothing changes the mastery of Disney, his staff of animators, and the invention of the multiplane camera system. There still is one of these incredible machines also on display at the Disney Studios in the Frank G. Wells building.

This is one incredible film; so hard to believe this wonder is 75 years old.
