starship of the day

starship-a-color

this is another one from the online game Perpetual was putting together a few years back.. It was a sad day when this game and the company had to fold… what we were seeing  from the team and especially Ryan was beyond brilliant.

This is very cool! For some reason I did not fully realise, that your involvement in Star Trek Online ended with Perpetual. For some reason I always pictured you and Andrew Probert designing ships und props for the (online) future of star trek…

Cool design, U.S.S. Archer – like the name! 🙂 So the game you drew these for was the first incarnation of Star Trek Online? Was there no possibility of these designs being taken on by Cryptic (is it?) now the game has moved on to another developer? All the concept designs you’ve posted so far look better and more appropriate for a post-Nemesis Trek than the principal ones we’ve seen for the ‘new’ Star Trek Online (i.e. a disappointing and complicated rework of the Sovereign-class and a 200 year old near-identical remake of the Klingon Raptor). That’s the thing that’s turned me off the new Star Trek Online so much, the disappointing starship designs. They need to get you signed up again pronto! 🙂

Thats a sweet looking ship. do you have any other views of it?

I found google evidence of schematics for her (cropped off and linking to the old STO site with 404s all over. I even found this doughnut like one that’s pretty cool as well. Id love to see the underside. ONE of these ships is gonna get MODELED. Just love the nacelles on these last few.

I’ll put up the schematics later if you like and next week is doughnut ship week!! just added a post that goes into those Nacelles a little bit!!!

just plans , sorry to say!

YAY Doughnut ship! All I found was some upscaled pixeled up image, but it is enough that Im really liking that one as well. I missed out on a lot of the images from the first iteration of the game. I always see ghosts of it on google to be thwarted by 404 over and over. And that is a yes SIR to those schematics!

Sweet. Elements of Voyager and NX-01. I should try a kitbash of this or something like it. Another idea in the queue.

My first thought was the similarity to NX-01 on the front. I actually like the Terran Empire NX-01 markings (have it as a button on my facebook page). I really like the sweeping angels on the back and the nacelles! Nice.

oh man, oh man, oh man, another one!!!

    • March 20, 2009 at 9:07 am

Now this is interesting: Harry’s TrekMovie link features another link to some ship images on a Dutch site called MMOZONE – http://www.mmozone.nl/content/view/791/179/ – if you scroll right down to the bottom of the page there’s a small drawn image of a ship labelled ‘Tahoe’ which looks almost identical to the Archer, so maybe the ship is in the game after all. Maybe someone who’s been following the game’s development can shed some more light on this?

I just went over to that mmzone link you passed on and here is what has happened,, looks like their modelers were given all the ships designed by the perpetual and they reworked them I can see all the familiars in most of their models. Yes the Tahoe is the same as the one posted on the blog today. I wonder why they went thru such a lengthy modification process on those especially since most of them had already been rendered instead of just adding them to their fleet???? Could be a simple art direction changing the look to be unique to their pass at what the game is to look like.

I’ve enjoyed your comments over on Doug’s Blog, John, and now here at your own Blog. I’ve always loved your work, especially the E-E. This Perpetual stuff is a great extension of that sensibility. Your sketches are a thing of beauty.

John, LOVE the ARCHER!!!!! Man, please post some orthos of that drawing! I want to build this ship! Thanks also for making yourself available for us normal, everyday folks who are fans. Keep those updates coming!

  14. March 20, 2009 at 10:37 pm

Hi John, love the design. Reminds me of an unused design for the Enterprise E with the nacelle pylons pointing forward. The one that someone said looked like a chicken.

  15. March 20, 2009 at 10:57 pm

Glad your designs have made it into the game in some form, John, that certainly gives the new Star Trek Online much more credibility in my eyes. Add me to the list of folks who’d love to see the schematics! 🙂 Thanks!

I like this design. There is a clear lineage with the Sovereign Class that you yourself penned.
    Show us more, please 🙂

Wonderful blend! A bit of NX, much Intrepid, some Sovereign. It takes the best of everything.

I would love to see the orthos on the USS “Archer” too. I would love to see artwork and orthos for USS “Excalibur” as well.

Are there any more sketches of the U.S.S. Archer Class ship because this would be the exact ship i would want to command in Star Trek Online, it looks perfect i would not change anything on it.

I must join in the chorus for seeing more of the Archer. Undeniably the truest blending of the old and new styles of starship evolution. Please, more Archer!!!

I found this very pic somewhere on Cryptics STO site, and i beleive from hersay that the Tahoe is still around, as far as a class. I didnt get the full pic of it today till i found this site, and it looks realllllllly good in this full pic. I love the new angels on the back section and the necells (yea just like everyone else) I think the Tahoe leads a better cut for the new images for ST, not the what i call “Dumb” designe of the doughnut ships, i mean cmon guys that looks more like 50’s future drawings there then ST, even though thats kinda where ST spawned. It dont mean that it has to look like it though. The “Archer” is def. something id want to see in STO, and i put up a post saying keep the class, unchanged!. If you guys want to add your voices, go to the STO site mentioned and search the post “Save the Tahoe class” and post your stuff. ITD HELP i think if ppl did just so cryptic dont get to excited and redesign it..THANX for the info and help yall!

Ps. would love to see the specs to for it, i made my own lil fan fic about it, but itd be nice to compare and see what it the differences are…

    Beautiful work, Mister Eaves.

I’ll reassert the interest in seeing schematics of her. She’s beautiful in that picture, but we can’t really tell how she would look from the side, the bottom or from her front.

Indeed, I have been puzzling over the specs of this beauty for quite a while now. It looks to be based off of my personal favorite, the Intrepid class. So far, I’ve only confirmed what appear to be phaser arrays on the aft wings, aft and fore sections of the saucer, perhaps two aft firing torpedo launchers, and the shuttle launch bay. I’m putting her around 12-16 decks.

I would sooo appreciate the schematics and specs!
