The Batmobiles from Comicon 2012

This was one of the greatest comicons solely because all of the Batmobiles were there and close enough to touch….  It took forever to find them on opening night, and we had to ask at least 10 con crew where they were.  The 11th guy knew and directed us to a dark tent way outside and to the back of the convention center…not many had found them yet so it was easy to get great pics without throngs of people all around the cars.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more from Comicon 2012.

it’s pin up Friday on Saturday with more of Miss Chelsea Rae

Thanks for the tons of requests for more of Miss Chelsea Rae, and she was so happy to hear that everyone liked her pictures so much….  We were just talking yesterday about our next shoot, and she is going to go for the Star Trek Red Dress theme!!!  WOOOO, I can’t wait to see her take on that genre.  As I had mentioned last time, Chelsea was great fun to work with and I loved all the awesome  pix we got up on the flight deck.  From all the comments and requests for more it seems that everyone else did too! !  Thanks again Chelsea, and here are a few more pix from last July’s USS Midway Shoot!

cowboys and aliens, the art of, part 1

poster

I have always wanted to work on a western and I was so sad that I completely missed out on “True Grit”.  I have always wanted to work on a Coen Brother film and I was so sad that I completely missed out on “True Grit”.  So If I could have gotten on “True Grit” I could have fulfilled all my movie dreams at one time and either died happy or retired with a big smile on my face….  Sadly none of the above happened, but what happened next was  “Cowboys and Aliens”.

My Friend Russell Bobbitt who was my prop boss on  JJ’s  “Star Trek” and “Iron Man 2” called and asked if I would like to help him out on this crazy Space Western. I said sure and couldn’t wait to start!!!  He put me on the Cowboy and Indian stuff which was really what I wanted to work on the most.  I was so happy that at least in a half kinda way I was working on a WESTERN….  Anyways, this was back in 2010 and Working for Russell is always a treat.  He is one funny guy with an incredible talent for creating awesome props for the shows he works on!  He plays guitar, he has a two terabyte collection of music, and he always has the funnest crews to work with.

For “Cowboys and Aliens” Russell had the world famous Chris Ross working on the alien props and I got the rifles and bows!!!  Can’t stress enough how much fun this was.  The Apache Indians were the chosen tribe for the film, and it was a good time doing all the research and getting to talk to so many Native Americans about their heritage and all about their ancestors’ ways of life in the 1800’s.  Harrison Ford had just been cast as one of the lead roles, and he really got into the props for his character.  All of the research that Russell and his assistant Melody Beth found for a wealthy cattleman of the time would go full circle with the research that Harrison was doing!  It was very cool to see Mr. Ford get so involved, and he and Russell became good friends!

Over at my desk, the first thing I was given to do was Apache shields, Yellow Boy, Sharps, and Henry rifles that were used by the Indians.  The guns were to be obtained by the tribe either by being stolen or trophies from white man kills.  Each rifle was to be decorated with tribal skins and trinkets, so a whole slew of different variations were called for.  The same with the shields, tons of variations were requested.  So with all that said here is some the production art from these two props.

starfleet engineering complex

More from the perpetual files.  This was to be a giant engineering complex; it was to be a place where warp technologies were developed, along with other x projects.  This rough came right after the command center renderings, and I believe that I had about two more weeks on the game till it went down.  Anyways, this was a very fun study and lots of wild architecture going on throughout.

star fleet command center

Here is a big B&W rendering of the Star Fleet Command Center from Star Trek online during the Perpetual days!!!  Lots of fun creating this big space and nice to not have to worry about budget of construction or the restraints of stage size like in the movie days!!!  This was one of the last assignments done before Perpetual went down, and in the next few weeks that followed a lot of interiors were set to paper but were never fully realized….  This one was a particular favorite, and I was so glad to have run across it again today.

Enjoy!

new finds from the move

starships

The unpacking process from the big two year move is finally happening, and the art work and set photos are finally starting to see the light of day again….  Soon I’ll be able to scan and post more stuff from Trek that has been missing from here for so so long. (ed. note:  YEA!)

I just found the Perpetual box of all the art from the first pass of the Trek on line game, and I’ll start scanning them hopefully this week.  Years ago when these two pieces were posted there were a lot of requests for the schematics, and I am sure they lie somewhere in this box so hold tight and I’ll have them up ASAP.

OK, have a great weekend.

It’s Pin up Friday with miss KasSandraKid

Welcome to Pin Up Friday!!!!  WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!! Howdy all!  Well, it took forever to get settled in and set up a shoot, but here at last are some pix from my first Nebraska photoshoot.  When we were starting the big move to Wyoming a year ago, I did a little research on models in the area and came across KasSandraKid’s page!!!  What an awesome array of pix she had in her portfolio, and I couldn’t wait to work with her.  We have been planning our shoot ever since, and last month it finally happened!!!  I live about 20 minutes from Nebraska where KasSandra is from, and we picked out The National Monument as our location for the big shoot!!!

She is a photographer herself and only started modeling a short while ago.  She loves the fantasy realm; I was so happy that she tackled the infamous red dress theme!!!  She has one incredible eye for details, and she was so creative with throwing out poses and setups for all the spots we shot at. She is fearless and ebbs confidence with every pose!!!  Tons of fun to work with, and I’m so look forward to doing it again. Her man Sam came along and the two of them make for a great team!  So without any more jibber jabber from me…sit on back (ed. note:  Wyoming has started affecting his speech) and enjoy some of the pix from the big Nebraska shoot.

35th anniversarry of star wars nose art

Howdy all and happy 35th to Star Wars.

The big celebration is just a few weeks a way, and Florida is getting ready!!!!  Many years ago my friend Sean (of Acme Animation Archives) and I were talking about coming up with some new Star Wars art for his gallery.  We came up with the idea of creating some fictional nose art for some of the various wing groups and fighters.  The idea was pitched to Lucasfilms, and the word came back that we were good to go with some concepts.  Well 5 years later we are running with the drawings, HAAA!

Here are some ROUGHS that we were hoping to get some feedback on so have a look and let me know what you think…. The first two are for the A-Wing group and the Leia is just an idea.

Thanks.
