Well it has been a great week sharing all the brilliant work from this very talented artist. To finish up here are some of Ron Cobb’s spacecraft designs from Alien and  a painting of the Space Shuttle atop the 747.  I saw this piece hanging in the art gallery at Cape Canaveral in 1990, and was amazed at his Cobb’s skills as a photo realist artist as well as a great concept illustrator. Thanks again for a great week and I’ll conclude the Jerry Goldsmith tribute next Monday. have a great weekend.

That pic of the Nostromo land on the ground looks great.
I like the pci from Space Tuckers. Not a great film, but a funny moden day sci-fi B movie.
That last pic is total cool as I was scrolling down I though it was a photo.

Thanks. This has been a great week full of information!
And deg really did an impressive job bringing that Heli-Jet to life: http://www.deg3d.biz/splash_169/169_artwork.html (section “(unused ALIEN design) Heli-Jet” to the right)

Glad to be of service. Make sure to browse through the other sections of the page as well. For example his modernized classic Enterprise in all kinds of pics and some animations and the Star Trek Online scout he´s currently working on (“on the bench …”). I´m sure you´ll be pleasantly surprised.

I recall many of those images from (a now forgotten title) book on the film Alien. It had Giger stuff too and a real cool drawing of the first draft Nostromo.

    Great stuff!

I think Cobb Week should be an annual event.

@ Jay, I’m with you..Cobb Week, an annual event.

@ John, thanks for all the fantastic pics, some I haven’t seen in years, takes me back to being 12 years old and pouring over my best friend’s older brothers glossy books on Alien production artwork….loved it then, love it now.

And I too can see Ron’s influence in your work, and I admire it greatly….hope one day you can design some original tech for a big scale production outside of the confines of Trek, then the sky’s the limit baby.

    Keep carrying the torch forward.

    Mark

I love the concept art but that shuttle painting is breathtaking. It looks real. I dunno how he did that, but it’s beautiful.

Man that is some great stuff! I have always LOVED that top shot ridin’ the beastie, and sure-enough, that’s the heli-jet shot fell in love with as well, that I had to build it in CG. Started a prac of it yeeeeeeaaaaars ago, but never finished it, so figured I’d best cap it off in CG.

Oh my stars and garters! Holy Snikeys! That’s a painting at the bottom! Whoa. Incredible!

Thanks dude, great stuff, and have a great week-end too, eh.

And thanks for the nice words there too, John! 🙂

I was out at the Forest Preserve dog-park yesterday (as it was 82º and sunny here!) with our pups and me wifey-poo, and I was talkin’ to her about you and Cobb/Goldsmith week as we hiked. And I was saying how I now really understood just why I LOVED your design style so much, as I loved Cobb so much and it would be the style I would emulate (and actually did a bit long ago), if I practiced it more (but you got a natural gift).

Anywho, so Cobb was my all-time fav concept artist growing up, so it was a natural that I came to love your work as much. You are Cobb’s rightful successor in my eyes, dude. And that says a lot right there, eh.

Thanks again for the great retrospective week! 😀

The Nostromo bridge is easily my favourite sci-fi ship interior of all time. It has a gritty, realistic feel, though claustrophobics would probably miss a nice, high-domed trek bridge.

Thanks so much for sharing these with us John! I feel like I’ve been exposed to some really great stuff with Ron Cobb week and it’s given great insight to your design work! 🙂

The level of detail on that Nostromo bridge shot is incredible!
