Well I just got back from Kentucky and have had my fill of fried chicken and sweet tea!!! Really need to hit the gym now!!! Wonderfest was a great as always and the show reached record attendance, and model entries in the great modeler contest counting into the 500’s, I Got a lot of laughs when I read the comments to my “end of the blog” prank and especially liked being cussed out in bad Chinese!! HAAAA! Sorry for the scare but couldn’t pass up a good joke!!! Went to the Air force flight museum in Dayton on the first day there, and saw so many incredible planes and rockets!! This museum was so amazing and have to go back for more next year,,,,, got lots of pics from both the museum and the convention, and I’ll put up a few everyday this week.. Met a lot of great folks and venders that make some awesome model and figure collectibles. I’ll start posting those as well with links to the venders that had everything for those looking for that hard to find kits. Deg and his brother Greg hung out with My friend Nelson and I over the weekend and had a lot of good fun, food and laughs!! Just to much fun. this was an unbelievable entry!!! the ship floated freely above the base via a brilliant magnetic set up. Quite impressive amount of engineering.

this is Robert on the left and the other Robert is on the right, These guys had a great vender booth set up and is called AMP or Arvey Model Products. these guys put out some awesome kits and have a beautiful Star destroyer in the works!!!

My god, I’d of been in heaven there, definatly the kind of event where I’d have to leave my girlfriend at home, as well as my wallet, I’d go bust!
Some of those models look really well done, especially that floating Star Destroyer. Would be cool to see a studio sized model of the new Battlestar Galactica, the onyl one I can see in the pictures looks like its a small desktop sized one.
I really need to plan a trip to the states again, so many museums I never got a chance to see on my last visit over the pond 🙂

Air Force museums are so cool! I love seeing the intricate lines of these beauties up close and personal.

The magnetic floating Venator-class Star Destroyer takes the cake, though.

That floating Venator was brilliant! (BTW, notice the little Millenium Falcon at the bottom and an NX-01 off to the side?)
But I love those models of the Steamrunner and the Akira. And of course Frank’s Constellation was nice and detailed as well.
Not just an NX-01, but a Mirror Universe NX-01.
But, I’m astounded by the mag-lev Venator.

I would love to visit Air force flight museum, it on my to see list when I final get to do a proper visit of the States. I been to UK Royal Air Force Museum, before it got Refurbished. If you are ever over in the UK I reckomend you visit the WWII Bomber Command bunker at RAF Uxbridge, It’s a great little Museum and everything has been prosived form the last time it was used. Unfortunaly it not open to the public on a day to day basis. however the Public can get to see it, if they ask the base CO.

There were 501 models to look at. I didn’t get a shot of the back end of the refit to see if it was lit.
Wow! Real hardware, sci-fi models – it must be heaven. Love that UFO SID model. And the “floating” destroyer — what a cool idea. Thanks for the shots, John.

The hovering star destroyer is ingenious. How high above the ground was it? Also loved to see that space ship from 2001 right behind it. One of the coolest miniatures in all of science fiction.

Welcome back!! My jaw just dropped after seeing your pictures of the starship models!! My God!!
In that Shot of the Ent-A, is that a Decatur class further down the table? Got any shots of it?
Indeed, an über-GREAT time, esp. with such exceptionally cool company to enjoy it with, John and Nelson (super-nice dudes!) as well as Pat McClung (VFX sup on many films, latest being Wolverine) who also joined us at the Wright-Patterson air museum (super nice dude as well). And OMG, that museum, like none I’ve ever been too. Incredible! One word: Go! And go to WonderFest too, awesome fun time!
We also all went to an off-sight theater screening (introduced by Veronica Cartwright!) of Alien with the WF peeps Saturday night (awesome to see it on the big screen again!), as well as John, Nelson, Greg and I went to see Star Trek together late Sunday night after über-fun WF banquet. (Thanks for the great (fast and safe) drivin’ to get us there on time, Geg!)
And such great presentations too by John and Pat, as well as by Tom Woodruff Jr., Steve Wang, Bob Burns, and Steve Johnson, as well as others. Thanks for a great time together and a great presentation John!

Also nice to see my fellow countryman Martin Bower’s stuff in the USA – I’ve often seen his work at UK conventions. That SID 2 is his “next-gen” version of the Space Intruder Detector from ‘UFO’; and I think the “way cool” flyer is from the anime series ‘Last Exile’…

Wonderfest is a great time. There’s alot of models to look at, classes and workshops, guest presentations, Iron Modeler competition and alot of other thigns going on.
You’ll enjoy it.
Yeah De, I believe that is the largest fault-line in NA (if I’m not mistaken). We have had 3 shakers that I recall in the last 25 years. Not devastating like in CA (yet) but one around ’87 shook my whole apt. in Chicago at the time and made my pictures fall off the walls. Lasted a lil’ under a minute. Didn’t know what the heck was goin’ on (as I didn’t know of the fault-line at that time). It was pretty wild.

The “way cool” little green vanship is my model. It started as a resin kit with several problems, and after some thought I made a bunch of modifications intended to give it a ‘Thirties air-racer look, stubby and purposeful like a GeeBee.

I went to that museum the year before and met that plane face-to-face.
Well, actually, more like Head-on.
I hit the wingtip with the side of my head so hard that one of the CoMMiES who was with me (Robb Merrill) heard the hollow *Bong* as the impact reverberated through the wing.
Anyway, I just thought that was a great title for that picture and it brought back the memory. 😀
