Who would have thought there would be so much interest in all the old Star Trek stuff from our garages!!! I didn’t think anybody would ever want to lay eyes on this stuff again!! Old-fashioned pencil and pen drawings, props, old photos and images from FILM! and all those silly stories from the crazy days on the show. I thought it would be comical to those that were there, but never to anyone outside the realm of cooky Hollywood…thats why I loved Doug’s blog so and started my own. It is really exciting to see that all of this stuff has really made a lot of folks happy with all this behind the scenes nostalgia! So to all you friends and readers of the Blogs thanks for all the great fun sharing your own stories and comments. I so wish I had more time to answer everything and a lot of times I just want to join in on the rolling conversations… but alas work has a heavy twitch and the demands are overwhelming sometimes but I love reading everything…and some of the fights are funny too!!!!! So in the #’s Doug’s at 88 and this one’s 94 ….YEEEE-HAAAH-n-Howdy, and thanks again!!!

Well-deserved ranking, John. Congrats!
Too much great stuff here that keeps us coming back! Well done John!
CONGRATS SIR ! 🙂
AND YES, people can debate the new movie ALL they
want ’till the cows come home. ONE thing no one will
argue is it helped fire up TONS of interest in Trek again,
and who BETTER to look up then the guys who’ve been ” IN ”
the thick of it for years !
😉
Nothing surprises me when it comes to Trekkies. We have a deep love for all things Trek. And we love to talk Trek with each other, so it’s just gravy when you guys who were there start talking Trek with us. And it’s really fascinating to us when you go through your “garbage” and find this old stuff because it all went into making Trek that thing that we love, even if it was something they didn’t use. I know I love coming here and going to Doug’s blog and reading your guys’ stories about the good ol’ days and looking at sweet concept art and CG renderings. And, as an amateur artist and occasional starship designer, it’s always great to see how the pros do it. 😀
Congrats on the top 100. I’m not a bit surprised. 😀
At 10:07 am, you are #68 and Doug is #58. You’re mov’n on up!
Way-coolness. Where do you get this ranking data BTW, John? Is it a WordPress internal ranking system?
LLP,
deg
Congrats! Now we just need to get you to #1 🙂
Thanks for all your hard work on the blog, John! You and Doug’s places are just an absolute treat. It’s really kind of you to share all this great stuff every day!
Congrats! You’ve earned it. Might I also suggest that you and Doug think about maybe putting together a book like the Art of Star Trek and the Star Trek Scrapbook that came out several years ago. I know I’d buy it.
That’s awesome, buddy!!!
Star Trek is so engaging (pun indended) that Trekkers just can’t get enough. Look at the amount of extra material above and beyond the movies/shows…novels, comics, animated stuff, calendars, making of type books, toys, models, big Vulcan foam “fingers” like the SF Giants gave away last month….wow! Not to mention all the fan work and conventions!
We are, evidently, insatiable!! 😀
***CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS***
Did you really think these blogs wouldn’t be popular? You guys are THE artists from Star Trek! The window you’ve provided into the creation of this universe has been incredible. Seriously, thank you!
Very cool, John, and congratulations! To be honest, I am not at all surprised by this ranking. The material you present here is extremely interesting to *many* people. Again, I thank you for taking the time to post.
John, you underestimate the awesomeness of your bloggage.
This is all familiar and much-loved material from a new, yet nostalgic, perspective. I grew up with Star Trek. This blog is a treasure trove! Cheers!!
A well deserved ranking! So many boring blogs out there about peoples political opinions and what they did over the weekend. Its so refreshing to actually have blogd like John’s and Doug’s that have much sought after material as well as been actually fun to read!
Now we just need to convice Mike, Andy and Rick to get some blogs up and running (Think most of the other ilustrators have blogs now, sorry if I missed anyones name!) 😀
Deg, the rankings can be found at http://botd.wordpress.com. that shows the top 100 rankings of the day.
Just to add to the above, teh ranking varies depending on if you choose all languages or not as well. This blog is at 69 dude! But thats if you filter it to be English blogs only. Still a pretty hufge accomplishemnt when there are 197,613 blogs on WordPress 🙂
I wouldn’t say it’s entirely the cow’s fault.
Some of us are here to read what YOU have to say, John
It’s corrected! Now the cow is Holy, hmm this isn’t India, last I checked. 🙂
or did you mean “Holy Cow”?
HA!! Lou, then you should know by now to hear his posts in your head and not worry about the spelling and grammar!
So now that I look at the spelling, I’m enjoying your first post even more. 😀
I offer my proofreading services, much as Doug said that Dorth sometimes does for him. John is just such a busy guy that he’s usually writing the comments quickly before posting the material, it sounds like.
Thanks for answerin’ my Q as to ranking, Suricata. 🙂
LLP,
deg
No probs Deg, thats why I like it here, everyones willing to pitch in with answering each others questions 🙂
Uh oh … it’s #95 now ! I’m hitting “Refresh” a few times ! Seriously, this blog (and Doug’s) deserve better. In my whole life (it’s almost 20 years now) I didn’t visit any blog the second time. I may not comment on every post but that’s because I’m left speechless by the quality work on these blogs. Now to #1 !
The only bad thing I can say about this blog, John, is that you waited too long to start it. This is THE “go to” site for long time Trekkies like myself who have been with the frachise for so long. Never before, have we felt so close to those of you who actually made Star Trek. Congrats and thank you for reaching out to us!
Congrats, John! Well deserved! 🙂 Thanks for giving us a place to see your awesome work and read such great stories!!
What can I say that hasn’t been said…it’s an awesome blog, the enthusiastic audience response speaks for itself, and the fans very much appreciate your taking the time to do it.
Congratulations! Thank you so much for sharing all the great work you’ve done.
Well-deserved ranking, if you ask me!
For those of us not in the industry, Eavesdropping and the Drex Files are simply amazing to have. Since all we get to see is the finished product, a look into how it all came to be, and the other possibilities that could’ve happened, and fuller looks at things we only get glimpses of on-screen — well, it’s frankly magical stuff.
I get a little bit of the kid-in-the-candy-shop feeling when I’m reading here! Looks like a whole bunch of other people do too.
Thank you for it.
Congrats, John! It’s funny, I never read blogs until you and Doug started yours, but now I can’t get enough of them. And although yours and Doug’s would be number 1 on my list, I think to get to #69 is very respectable indeed considering the kind of political blogs there must be out there that’ve been high profile for many years. 🙂
Woot! good times!
Congratulations! You guys are posting so much stuff that I have a hard (but a very good) time following everything.
Congrates John, you keep going though that “Garbage” and posting it up, cause we love it. 🙂
When it comes to Trek, you always find people intrested in it and love to talk about it. Terk is the only show that I know of that has fans from all walks of life. It is the only show that I know off that has some Major affects on the world we live in today. As it has inspired people to invent some of the Tech on the show. Would we have the flip phone desgin we have today without the TOS Communicator. Maybe? but the people behind it has states that the Commincator was their insperation.
Now lets see if we can het this blog to number one. 😀
Its hardly a surprised this blog has made it to the top 100. And if it makes it into the top 10, I would not be surprised either. It’s a valuable resource for all us trekkies trying to get a glimpse into what goes on in behind the camera.
Also, with trek as we know it as good as dead, your’s and Doug’s blogs are the last vestiges of new, fresh information and desings from the “old” Trek.
